Good Friday Tenebrae Service

March 30, 2018

Tenebrae means "darkness" or "shadow".  On this night, we remember Jesus' death.  It is a solemn service in which the lights slowly dim as we read the passion narrative and extinguish candles.  We leave in silent darkness after the Christ Candle has been extinguished and Jesus is buried in the tomb. The service is uncomfortable and unfinished as the story is not over.  We wait in grief and darkness for the life and resurrection of Easter morning.
