Whats up with Augustine. I glazed over part way through that part. Personally, I feel it maybe was a bit too much for most people and attention was lost and therefore the full impact of the sermon was lost.
Hey Darrel- I loved the insight into Augustine. Here are a few of my notes, maybe they will be of help:
-What am I driven by? Augustine was driven by beauty. -What do I love too much? For Augustine, it was food and sex. -How do I seek that which I love? Is that where my sin lies? -Augustine suggests that the Higher order of things is: God People Things However, we tend to get this out of order which is called: -Disordered Love: putting things in the wrong order - brings about brokenness -Sin in our hearts creates a desire for our fathers things instead of our Father. -We love the wrong things too much, which leads to our feeling empty, unsatisfied, lonely -Only God's glory is sufficient -Oh Lord, You have made us for yourself...until we find you, we won't be satisfied -Worldly things are too broken, too needy, too addictive -Because we are made in the image of the Triune God our lives are about community and loving relationships -God must be the center of my world for joy to exist!
I found Dana's sermon, Keller's insight and Augustine's thoughts to be refreshingly honest, accurate and transparent. It has given me much to ponder this week as I know that there are areas in my life that are most certainly driven by disordered love. I hope that these notes will be of help in your journey :) Thanks for posting!
The Augustine information was a bit heavy, but it was also right on the money. We are distracted by the world around us and tend to get lost in all that it offers us; whether that is sex, or money, or power etc. We all have our achilles heel. Even augustine who was a smart dude got lost in it all before he became a christian. We are called to be citizens of heaven and not of this world.
I felt like Dana's message was a call to that. But because of a lot of the message was head knowledge i felt like the heart message was lost.
