Community Discussion Board > Favorite Prayers

On Sunday I was blessed with the opportunity to deliver my first sermon at Real Life. Our Orange Service for the day was on Prayer. It was wonderful to see everyone engaged in the prayer stations. One of the stations was an opportunity to remain seated and journal or meditate on two prayers I had hoped to share with all of you. Problem: with the lights on, it was impossible to read the screen...Oops! So, for those of you who are curious about two of my favorite prayers, I have posted them here just for YOU! I loved Sunday morning! It was really special to see our entire church community in worship together. I would love to know about some of your favorite prayers so post them here and let's share.

"May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships so that you may live deep within your heart. May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that you may wish for justice, freedom, and peace. May God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done." (Franciscan Blessing)

I asked God for strength that I might achieve.
I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked God for health that I might do greater things.
I was given infirmity that I might do better things.
I asked for riches that I might be happy.
I was given poverty that I might be wise.
I asked for power that I might have the praise of men.
I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things that I might enjoy life.
I was given life that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing that I asked for--but everything I had hoped for...
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am among all men most richly blessed. (An unknown Confederate soldier).

Debbie,
What was that book called that you referred to on Sunday morning?

Hey Sherri-
The book is Prayer:Finding the Heart's True Home by Richard J Foster. It is a wonderful book, filled with many forms of prayer. Originally published in 1992, it is as relevant today as it was then...after all, it's about prayer :D Enjoy the read.

Blessings-
